This Privacy Policy describes how HumanTutor LLC ("HumanTutor," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information through the humantutor.help platform (the "Platform"). By using the Platform, you consent to the practices described in this policy.
From Clients (students and guardians): name, email address, phone number, student first name, student grade level, subject of interest, preferred session location and time, post-session survey responses, and payment information (processed and stored securely by Stripe — HumanTutor never stores, transmits, or has direct access to full payment card numbers).
From Tutors: name, email address, phone number, school and district of employment, role and years of experience, subjects offered, towns served, availability schedule, hourly rate, biography, profile photo, t-shirt size, and any additional information provided in the application.
From all users: basic usage data such as pages visited, form submissions, referring URLs, browser type, and device information, collected automatically to improve the Platform. We do not use tracking pixels, retargeting tools, or third-party advertising cookies.
We use your information to: match Clients with Tutors; coordinate first-session logistics including location and scheduling; process payments and issue refunds; send booking confirmations, session reminders, and post-session surveys; maintain and display Tutor profiles; review and resolve disputes; communicate Platform updates; and comply with applicable legal obligations. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We do not use your information for advertising purposes.
When a session is confirmed, HumanTutor shares the Tutor's full name and contact information with the Client, and the Client's name and contact information with the Tutor, for the sole purpose of coordinating the session. This information is shared only after mutual confirmation and is subject to the confidentiality obligations in the Contractor Agreement (for Tutors) and these Terms.
All payment processing is handled by Stripe, Inc. HumanTutor does not store, process, or have direct access to your full payment card information. Stripe's collection, use, and protection of your payment data is governed by Stripe's privacy policy, available at stripe.com/privacy. HumanTutor receives only the information necessary to confirm payment status (e.g., authorization success, charge status, last four digits of the card).
We use the following third-party services in the operation of the Platform: Stripe for payment processing; Formspree for form submissions; Cloudflare for DNS, security, and email forwarding; and Google Fonts for typography. Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing the data it processes. We do not share your personal information with any third party for marketing or advertising purposes.
Accepted Tutors have a public-facing profile visible to all Platform visitors. Profile information includes the Tutor's first name, school, subjects, service area, availability, hourly rate, and biography. Profile information is provided voluntarily by Tutors and may be updated or removed upon request by contacting luke@humantutor.help.
Client information is retained for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, including coordinating sessions, processing payments, and resolving disputes. Tutor information is retained for the duration of their active listing and for a reasonable period following removal for record-keeping and legal compliance purposes. You may request deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting luke@humantutor.help. We will respond to deletion requests within 30 days.
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include HTTPS encryption for all Platform traffic, secure third-party payment processing, and access controls limiting who can view personal data. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Use of the Platform is at your own risk.
The Platform may use essential cookies to support site functionality (such as maintaining session state). We do not use tracking cookies, analytics cookies, or third-party advertising cookies. No personal information is collected through cookies.
HumanTutor does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13 under any circumstances. All Platform interactions on behalf of students under 18 must be conducted by a parent or legal guardian. If we become aware that personal information has been submitted by or on behalf of a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent, we will delete that information immediately. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has submitted personal information without your authorization, contact luke@humantutor.help and we will address it promptly.
You have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate information; request deletion of your personal information; and withdraw consent to the processing of your information (which may limit your ability to use the Platform). To exercise any of these rights, contact luke@humantutor.help.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time by posting the revised policy on the Platform. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated accordingly. Continued use of the Platform following the posting of a revised policy constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be communicated by email to registered users when practicable.
